I wish someone had handed me a simple, cancer-safe skincare routine the day I was diagnosed, something that said:
“Here. Use this. It won’t hurt your skin. It won’t disrupt your hormones. It will help you feel human.”
Instead, I had to learn by trial and error.
Product by product.
Burn after burn.
Today, as a Hodgkin’s survivor and founder of MaGéAu Naturel, I created the routine I wish I had on Day 1, and the routine thousands of women now use during chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, or post-treatment healing.
This is the only cancer-safe skincare routine you truly need.
Simple, gentle, effective, hormone-safe, fragrance-free.
Step 1 - The Cleanser That Won’t Strip Chemo Skin
Use morning + night
Recommended: Facial Cleanser / Liquid Soap
During treatment, your skin barrier becomes thinner, weaker, more reactive.
Every harsh cleanser is a direct attack on it.
What you need is:
sulfate-free
fragrance-free
essential-oil-free
non-foaming
pH-balanced
hydrating
My cleanser is designed exactly for this, safe for face, hands, body, even scalp sensitivity.
After switching, the burning sensation on my cheeks disappeared within 48 hours.
Step 2 - The Magnesium Repair Stage (The Real “Before/After”)
This is the step that changed my skin after chemotherapy.
Magnesium helps:
-
reduce inflammation
-
restore the lipid barrier
-
rebalance stressed skin
-
calm nerve sensitivity
-
improve hydration retention
Before magnesium: My skin felt like sandpaper mixed with eczema.
After magnesium: Smooth. Calm. Supple.
Like getting my old skin back.
Products with magnesium:
I applied body lotion twice a day to arms, legs, chest, belly, and feet.
It became my non-negotiable ritual.
STEP 3 - Face Moisturising (The Gentlest Hydration Possible)
Cancer skin = dehydrated skin.
This is the moment to avoid heavy actives and stick to nourishing basics.
Use:
fragrance-free
alcohol-free
essential-oil-free
soothing botanical oils
magnesium for recovery
My go-to during treatment was the Body Lotion on my face at night, yes, REALLY. It's that gentle.
STEP 4 - Scalp Care (Yes, Even If You’re Losing Hair)
This part is emotional.
But taking care of your scalp helps with:
-
itchiness
-
dryness
-
sensitivity
-
regrowth later
I used our sulfate-free Shampoo even when bald.
It cleans without stripping and is safe for the follicle even when fragile.
Finish with the Conditioner once hair begins to return, your scalp will thank you.
STEP 5 - The Only Lip Balm That Didn’t Burn
Chemotherapy dried my lips more than anything else.
Most lip balms burned because of essential oils or menthol.
The only formula I could tolerate was a zinc-oxide clean balm — exactly what inspired our Lip Balm SPF30.
And yes: Your lips also need sun protection during treatment.
STEP 6 - Safe Body Cleansing
Your skin doesn’t need stripping. It needs protection.
This is why our Shower Gel is:
fragrance-free
essential-oil-free
sulfate-free
creamy and non-irritating
This is the formula I used daily when literally everything else burned.
STEP 7 - The “Emergency Comfort” Step
On the worst days, bone pain, fatigue, raw skin, the Massage Oil was my emotional support.
It helped with:
-
skin tightness
-
joint discomfort
-
sleep
-
dry patches
-
anxiety
Magnesium + natural oils = instant nervous system relief.
