You have probably noticed the terms Clean, Natural, Organic and Vegan being thrown around quite a bit lately. Like most people, you probably care about the ingredients in the skincare products that you use.

Clean – can be associated with “do no harm”. A clean product will not contain any ingredients that are likely to harm the skin, but that doesn’t mean it contains all-natural ingredients as it may still contain synthetic ingredients.

Natural – natural beauty products use ingredients available in nature. Plant-derived ingredients may include herbs, roots, flowers and essential oils, but natural substances in skin care products include animal-derived products such as beeswax, and minerals.

Organic - to be considered organic, raw materials should also be grown naturally without adding in pesticides and synthetic chemicals in the process of growing or gathering them.

Vegan - in general, vegans follow a diet free of meat and animal byproducts such as milk or cheese. Much like these dietary restrictions, vegan skin care is a routine that uses products that do not contain any animal or animal-derived by-product ingredient.

Here’s the order in which you should apply your skin care products (twice a day) to get the most out of them:

Cleanse - wash your face with a natural facial cleanser. Add a small pump of cleanser in your hands and gently massage onto damp skin. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and dry with a clean facial cloth or sponge. This will prepare your skin for the next steps.

Tone - apply a hydrating toner all over your face. This will help control your oil, hydrate your skin, and prep your skin for the rest of your products.

Eye cream - start using eye cream in your 20s. Your skin is thinner and more delicate around your eyes. Using an eye cream will decrease the appearance of fine lines around your eyes and nothing will reduce the look of puffiness faster than an eye cream, especially one that contains green tea.

Serum - using the right serum can help even your skin, reduce the appearance of dark spots, soften the look of fine lines, protect your skin from environmental factors, and give it a fabulous glow.

Moisturise - like cleansing, this is a super-important step in keeping your skin healthy and looking its best. Gently massage a hydrating moisturiser all over your face and neck. Not only will this deliver just the right amount of moisture to your skin, it will help reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Though the above steps are recommended twice a day, the next two are advised once a week.

Exfoliate - and get rid of the dead skin that contains damaged skin. Exfoliating unclogs your pores, minimises the appearance of acne, evens out your skin tone, brings out the best of your skin care routine, provides a flawless makeup look, helps with ingrown hairs and gives you a healthy glow.

Mask - once your skin is free from impurities, it is easier for the epidermis to absorb the active ingredients from the mask. Leaving your skin moisturised and nourished.

You need to apply sunscreen every day to protect your skin from the harmful radiations that can damage your skin. Using sunscreen will also decrease the risk of skin cancer and other skin ageing problems such as fine lines, wrinkles, spots and skin discolouration.

Darker skin does produce more melanin, but that only protects you up to a point. Dark skin can get sunburned and develop skin cancer too. A good UV sunscreen is critical for all skin tones.

Try and use a dedicated SPF, and always remember to use one that offers both UVA and UVB protection.

Acne is the most common skin problem. It can be caused by excess sebum oil, clogged pores, hormonal changes, medication or lifestyle and diet changes. Other factors such as stress and cosmetic products can also cause acne. Acne is common during the puberty stage, and becomes less common in adulthood.

To prevent breakouts you need to keep your skin clean to get rid of all the impurities, dead skin and the extra oil that starts forming on your skin’ surface.

Use a nourishing moisturiser because the anti-acne products can leave your skin dry. You also need to use makeup sparingly, keep your hair and hands away from your face so that you do not block the skin pores, spread the bacteria and irritate the skin.

Exfoliating works well to get rid of the blackheads from your skin.

As early as possible. Anyone past their teenage years should be establishing a good skin care routine on a regular basis.

The best time to start addressing wrinkles is once you see them in the mirror. Usually, this is noticeable in your late 20s. But you can take preventive measures, like diligent sunscreen use, way before that. It’s the most effective and affordable anti-ageing product out there.

Over a period of time your skin will lose its elasticity and collagen, and it naturally begins to appear wrinkled and saggy with fine lines and wrinkles. By caring for it and focusing on prevention, you can minimise and improve the appearance of your skin with proper skincare regimen. Take care of your skin, protect from the harsh UV rays by using sunscreen.

Unfortunately, wrinkles are not something one can avoid totally. They are the by-products of ageing. However, we can delay their onset or minimise their appearance on the skin. Some ways to do it include

  • Limit exposure to the sun by applying sunscreen multiple times a day.
  • Use skin care products that contain antioxidants. They help in reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Uneven skin tone is caused by uneven distribution of pigment, it can also be caused by extreme sun exposure and hormonal changes. If you do not exfoliate your skin properly, you can develop uneven skin tone because of the excessive buildup of dead skin cells. You can use serums, creams that contain vitamin C to even out your skin tone.

Skin is classified into a few categories; normal, oily, dry, combination and sensitive skin. But over a period of time your skin texture and type can change as it is affected by a lot of factors such as lifestyle, hormones and your diet. The ideal way to understand your skin type might be to wash it gently and leave it for several hours without using any product to observe your skin.

Knowing what skin type you have is important, as you can then choose the best products and treatments to maintain healthy, glowing skin. To determine the exact type of skin, understand its needs, and know how to handle it, you can consult our blog dedicated to the subject https://cutt.ly/skintype.

Using a good moisturiser can help prevent and treat dry skin, it can also protect sensitive skin and improve the texture of your oily skin. Using a moisturiser daily can improve the skin’s hydrating and make your skin healthy and glowing.

You should moisturise your face daily after cleansing. Apply it in the morning after cleansing it and then before retiring to bed at night. People usually feel the need to moisturise the skin only during the winter season, but your skin needs moisture throughout the year.

Skin care is important, but you can overdo it. The perfect balance of products should leave your skin feeling hydrated and soft to the touch. It shouldn’t feel tight, dry, or squeaky clean after applying skincare products. When you are experiencing this, it means you are overdoing your skincare.

Obviously, you should see a dermatologist at least once a year for a skin cancer screening. Outside of that, seek out professional advice if you have any skin concern, whether it’s a new rash, spot or bump.

There are many safe and natural products to use while pregnant. When considering a product, be sure the ingredients don’t include retinol, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and hydroquinone, to name a few.

The best products to use will keep your skin soothed and well hydrated. Skin creams that deliver antioxidants to nourish while preventing moisture loss can be very helpful.

Always start by preparing your skin. Make sure you wash it properly and try to warm your skin before you start shaving to soften the hairs. Use a shaving oil when shaving and make sure your razor is sharp and not old. This will reduce irritation and prevent damage being done to your skin. Afterwards, apply a cold cloth to ease any sensitivity and then use an alcohol-free aftershave, ideally one containing aloe vera and witch hazel, which will protect your pores.

And should have a beard, moisturising with oil is a must. Moisturising your beard helps soften the hair, preventing skin irritation and reducing the risk of ingrown hairs. It also helps repair damaged hairs, and makes your beard easier to style. An oil is better than a moisturiser as it will absorb into the follicles more easily.
